Innovative Plan
Campbell has always delighted in dismantling and putting things back together to create something fresh. He wanted to use this piece of property as the base for the home he intended to build for himself out of a collection of retired cargo ships. Campbell believed he had created a completely original design for a home, but he later learned that a structure quite identical to his had already been built. The Mississippi hairdresser Joanne Ussery was discovered by Bruce Campbell about twenty years after the conception of his plan. She’d converted a Boeing 727 into her residence. She made the decision to rebuild in the shape of a plane after her former home burned down and to relocate next to a peaceful river. After giving it some thought, Campbell decided to change his plan of action.
He also changed them significantly in some other ways. Continue reading the article to find out more about Campbell’s airplane home and to view more pictures.
Campbell paid Olympic Airways a whopping $100,000 in 1999 to buy a Boeing 727. When he originally purchased the enormous plane, he had to get it to the Oregon woods. The fact that the plane had to be brought all the way from Athens, Greece, added to the difficulty of the situation. He paid $220,000 for the jet after factoring in the approximate $120,000 total cost of transportation. But he thought the money he spent on the jet was money well spent.
