Richard Goodall’s Impromptu Cover of ‘Don’t Stop Believin’ Has Schoolchildren Roaring and Steve Perry Proud as He Sets Up for $1 Million Win

Sure, you could try to hit that high note, but unless you’re Steve Perry or this grade school janitor from Indiana, don’t even bother tryin’.

Everyone knows the lyrics to Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin’,” but it’s a tough nut to crack when it comes to nailing the incredible range required to make it sound halfway decent.

Whether the attempt sends chills up people’s spines or makes all the dogs in the neighborhood start howling in fear depends entirely on the vocal chops of the singer.

Whenever someone starts to sing this classic power ballad from the 80’s, it immediately grabs your attention. That’s because it can go one of two ways – it’ll be either be fantastic and energizing, or the fallout will have you questioning your reality and why you even need ears.

While most cover performances of Journey’s famous hit song are mediocre at best, Richard Goodall belted it out like he was Steve Perry’s twin on fire!

What makes this even more incredible is that Richard was just doing a sound check for the school assembly when he chose to test out the microphone with an impromptu performance of an old favorite.

Who could ever guess that a nondescript middle-aged man has what it takes to make a crowd of young kids stand up and cheer with excitement?

Sadly, that’s part of the problem. People can be so judgy these days.

Susan Boyle of “Britain’s Got Talent” famously gave us a bit of well-deserved humility when we erroneously judged her book by its frumpy cover.

You remember her, she’s the surprise crooner who made the audience cringe with embarrassment when she awkwardly stood on the BGT stage crushing on Simon Cowell.

And then her career took off, just like her beautiful voice, to the highest level possible!

One of the great things about the 80’s is that musicians could look like whatever and it didn’t matter, nobody cared.

Everyone wore clothes and hairstyles that were wildly over the top, makeup was bold and looked like it was slathered on with an industrial paintbrush, and a lot of the singers of that era were unattractive yet talented.

Modern TV shows like “The Voice” remind us that it’s the voice we’re most attracted to.

These days cameras are everywhere and everyone is getting their 15 minutes of fame (thanks, Andy Warhol!), whether they want it or not.

Richard definitely wants and deserves the attention, and he even has his own TikTok channel where he regularly showcases his amazing performances.

People absolutely love to hear him sing, which is why he decided to send in an audition tape to “The Voice.” Unfortunately, whether due to his age, looks, or something else, he didn’t get picked to appear on the show.

That’s okay though, because Steve Perry, the original lead singer of Journey, gave the janitor props for his amazing rendition on Twitter.

He simply said, “I love this.”

Now that’s a prize that no amount of fame or money can ever buy!

Ramsey Boltin, who posted the viral video on Twitter, said, “People don’t realize how cool students actually become with the janitors. They really were the coolest adults in the building by far.”

Check out the video below to hear Richard Goodall’s stellar performance.

Nothing but respect for school janitors, especially ones like this.. 👏🏽👏🏽 pic.twitter.com/2g4aOZGvZd
